A 15-year-old boy was killed and a 13-year-old boy was wounded in a shooting inside a Bronx apartment Wednesday night, prompting a homicide investigation by the New York Police Department.
Police identified the teenager who died as Riley Billingslea. Officers found him with a gunshot wound to the head inside an apartment at 2825 Claflin Avenue in the Kingsbridge Heights section of the Bronx.
Emergency responders transported Billingslea to NewYork-Presbyterian Allen Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to CBS News New York.
A second victim, a 13-year-old boy, was also shot during the incident. Reuters reporting from the scene said the younger teenager suffered a gunshot wound to his torso.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting remained unclear Thursday.
Investigators were working to determine what happened inside the apartment, who fired the weapon and how the gun involved in the shooting ended up there. Police had not publicly announced an arrest in the early stages of the investigation.
The deadly shooting comes just days after another Bronx teenager was killed in a separate incident involving a firearm. On Monday, 16-year-old John Nunez was fatally shot in the head inside a Prospect Avenue home. Police sources said Nunez and another teenager had reportedly been handling a gun when it discharged.
The two incidents are not reported to be connected.
Billingslea’s death has now become the subject of an NYPD homicide investigation as detectives work to establish exactly what occurred inside the Claflin Avenue apartment.
Authorities are expected to release additional information as the investigation develops.
